Websites and custom applications

Fast, clear sites that load instantly and say what you do — and custom applications for the jobs no off-the-shelf product quite fits.

What we build

Business websites

The site most small businesses actually need: quick to load, clear about what you do, easy to contact you from, and built so search engines can read it properly. No bloated page builder loading megabytes of scripts to display three paragraphs.

Built mobile-first, because that is where most of the traffic is, and with the technical groundwork — structured data, proper headings, a real sitemap — done at build time rather than retrofitted later at greater cost.

E-commerce

Selling online, with payments, stock and shipping that reconcile with the systems you already run. The right answer is often an established platform configured properly rather than something bespoke — bespoke checkout code is a liability unless there is a genuine reason for it.

Custom web applications

For the process currently held together by a shared spreadsheet and someone's memory. Quoting tools, job tracking, client portals, internal dashboards — the things that are specific enough to your business that no off-the-shelf product fits without painful compromise.

We start with the smallest version that solves the actual problem. Ambitious first releases are how software projects quietly become expensive.

APIs and integrations

Connecting systems that should already talk to each other. Website enquiries into a CRM, bookings into a calendar, orders into accounting software, Microsoft 365 data into whatever needs it.

This is frequently the highest-value work in a project and the least visible. Removing a daily re-keying job saves more over a year than most redesigns.

How a project runs

  1. ScopeWhat the site or application needs to do, who uses it, and what success looks like. Written down before anyone opens an editor, so the quote is fixed rather than a moving target.
  2. DesignLayout and look agreed early, while changes are cheap. Reworking a colour scheme is minutes at this stage and hours after everything is built.
  3. Build and previewBuilt and put somewhere private you can click through as it progresses. You see it working before it goes anywhere public — no reveal at the end.
  4. TestReal devices and real screen sizes, forms actually submitting, links actually resolving. Verified, not assumed.
  5. Launch and supportDomain, hosting, HTTPS and email all configured, then handed over with what you need to run it — or kept under our support if you would rather not.

Common questions

How much does a business website cost?

It depends almost entirely on how much of it is bespoke. A well-built brochure site for a small business is a very different project from an application with logins, payments and integrations. We scope the work and quote a fixed price before starting, so there is no open-ended hourly meter.

Do I need a custom site, or will WordPress do?

If you need to edit content daily and the requirements are conventional, a content management system is often the sensible answer. If the site is mostly static, a hand-built site is faster, cheaper to host, and has far less to maintain or patch. We recommend based on what you actually need to change and how often.

Will the site work on phones?

Yes. More than half of most small business traffic is mobile, so layouts are built to work at phone width first and tested at real screen sizes rather than assumed.

Do you handle hosting and ongoing maintenance?

Yes. Static business sites can often be hosted on free tiers with automatic HTTPS, so the only recurring cost is the domain. Applications that need a database or server cost more to run, and we will tell you what that looks like monthly before you commit.

Can you connect our website to systems we already use?

That's a common request and often the highest-value part of a project — enquiry forms into a CRM, bookings into a calendar, orders into accounting software. Anything with an API can usually be connected, and the integration frequently saves more time than the website itself.
